A.D. 1033: The Millennium is finishing. Nothing will be not the same...

The gothic and millenarian novel returns! The Italian reply to Dan Brown.

Year of our Lord 1033, exactly thousand years since the death of Christ. A monk goes to an isolated monastery situated on a impervious mountain in order to carry on the mission that his Order gave him. A place of faith and culture with its prestigious scriptorium. But what the friar will find there goes beyond belief and comprehension, as it will be the progressive discovery of a perturbing and unmentionable reality. An itinerary that develops in an underground and mysterious world, among the persistence of  ancient blasphemous worships and famines, demoniac presences and heavelny events, that impend menacing over an universe wher nothing, absolutly nothing, is what seems at first sight.

The characters operate in a world of fantasy, but reconstruct with historical rigour, speak a language that is the language of their age and express themselves with the mentality of the monastic background. The novel is scanned by Psalms and Fathers of the Church’s verses, but especially by the obscure prophecies of St. John’s Apocalypse. Prophecies that seem, punctually and inexplicably to come true in the events that, in rapid succession, tragically happen in those few, perturbing days.

Is there, really, the place of the Antichrist? And what is the terrible mistery hidden in the walls of that monastery without time?

A story not very long, but full of  stage-tricks. A plot with a crescendo that will tie the reader until the epilogue that nobody, absolutely, could perceive. Innumerable the references to the concrete life of monks, as illustrated by the monastic chronicles of the middle age. Among miniators and calligraphists at work, conventual apothecaries with their outfit made of  herbs, poisonous plants and alembics; scandalous abbot’s elections, inexplicable deaths, strange lights in the forest and disquieting ancient ruines. All this while the time elapses slowly.

The Middle Age was never so obscure, hallucinated and cursed. In a mixture of different kinds of writing: thriller, gothic story, historical novel, millenarian and esoteric novel. With a style intentionally archaic to immerse better the reader in the atmosphere of the period.
